about

this compilation of my erliest recordings was released in a limited edition of 25 numbered cdrs back in 2008 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my first musical lesson in may 1983.

the music presented here was originally released on my first two cassettes, "rotation of galaxy" and "polarity", from 1989 and 1992 respectively. i suppose it's perfectly normal for every artist to have mixed feelings about his earliest works, and this is why i picked just the best tracks of those two cassettes. i can't stand listening to the omitted ones, and i wouldn't want you to listen to these either.

"rotation" was recorded in september 1989, just after i had learned my first recording ever -- "celestial voyage" -- would be included with the "musenalp wunderwelt musik" sampler, released by ulli ruetzel's erdenklang label. i had no clue as to what to do, and all i had were a mini moog and a moog prodigy. i recorded the cassette at my uncle's place who had borrowed a roland jx-8p for me. if you need a good excuse to buy a jx (or not), you might want to blame me for spending money on yet another synthesiser.

"polarity" was the second attempt, and it represented a massive step forward. not only had i acquired a -- for me -- huge selection of instruments, i even recorded it on analogue eight-track at the recording space that one of my teachers at school owned -- he gave me the key to his house while he was away on holiday and said "here you are, enjoy yourself". recorded between boxing day and new year's eve 1991, the album was mixed down to stereo on new year's day 1992 and released in february or march of the same year. some people even bought a copy. thank you for that, much obliged.

"through the open sky" eventually ended up on the "dream's word" cassette album, compiled by elana mell beach -- my first exposure to the international music scene, if you will.
